6 Week Intermediate Hand Building Course
$700 per student

Seek some scale and finesse your hand building style. This intermediate course is focused on slabs – designing & developing patterns – that explore the boundaries between functional & sculptural art. Join us for our 6 Week Intermediate Hand Building Pottery Course, on the Mandurah Foreshore! Class times available on Saturdays (10am – 12:30pm)!
1 class + 1 practice sesh, each week
6 WEEK PROGRAM
13 TOTAL SESSIONS
Six – 2.5 hr Pottery Classes (ages 18 +)
+
Seven – 2 hr. extra practice sessions (1 each week)
Lessons are Saturdays, from 9:30 am – noon
Practice sessions, anytime that suits you!
Intermediate level course, suitable for those who have entry-level experience with slab work. Small classes of 4-6.
WEEK 1 – Review best slab practices and create a set of 3 lidded vessels
WEEK 2 – Basics of pattern design & upsize/downsize a pattern from your included course book ‘Creative Pottery – Innovative Techniques & Experimental Designs‘.
WEEK 3 – Design your own pattern & create a matching set of 3
WEEK 4 – Design your own sculptural lamp out of fine stoneware or porcelain slabs
WEEK 5 – Lamp assembly & get into the basics of hand painting/glazing/sgraffito
*** BISQUE BREAK: 17 May – 31 May ***
We break for 1-2 weeks to allow pieces to dry, get bisque fired & ready for glazing & underglazing in week 5 & 6 lessons. During this week you will get a BONUS session for you & a friend – for free – to show off your mad skills!
WEEK 6 – basics of glazing & firing irregular forms
Goal of the Course – Begin to master working with finer clays. Advance the fundamentals of slab building & pattern work. Each week, the techniques you will learn, will increase in level of difficulty. At the end of the course, your goal is to finish 10 pieces (included, additionals are +$10 per piece).
COST OF COURSE
Cost of Course ($700 for 13 sessions/29 course hours). The cost per course hour is $24.13.
INCLUDES:
All your clay, instruction, access to our studio for practicing, use of our tools & equipment and firing & glazing for your favourite artworks (trimmed, polished, bisque fired, glazed & high fired).

Makeups – If you need to make up a class during your course, you will get to choose 1 of 3 options…
1) Makeup your lesson in another Group Class (provided there is space & the content/ages taught matches)
2) Opt for an extra Practice Session instead
3) Private/semi-private Makeup Lesson (We have discounted these Private Lessons to our Course Students. From $149 to $50. These can be booked on ANY day/time that suits you). This cost can be shared amongst more than 1 student needing to make up a lesson.
